Summary of Invitation, Context, Format & Group Objectives:
Dwayne Worthing, Chief HR Officer from Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’ / Che:k’tles7et’h’ First Nations Government has invited Jonathan and the Pinnacle Pursuits team to host/facilitate a multi-day corporate training and professional development retreat. It will include both workshops and educational trainings as well as active and interactive team-building activities. The group is made up of 12 employees comprising the operations team.
Background & Context:
Over the past decade, the Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’ / Che:k’tles7et’h’ First Nations Government, in response to the needs of the community, has experienced explosive growth, having evolved from a small hand full of people, to 111 employees! Two thirds of the team is made up of Indigenous people. It’s a unique group comprised of administration/Executive; Legislative Body; Advisory Council, a Corporate Arm and Independent Boards.
As discussed, explosive change / growth can create challenges and thus pain, and yet also create opportunity and potential. Its acknowledging this fact while maintaining a solution-focussed approach so that people can continue moving forward in a positive, productive, and empowered way.
Overall Goals, Hopes and Desired Learning Outcomes include:
- Team-building - to build a stronger sense of connection, collaboration, bonding, support and trust; overall to help galvanize and gel.
- Respectful Communications – to help build positive rapport, strengthen relationships, create more meaningful conversations.
- Conflict Resolution (aka Non-Violent Communication) – to build skills to help regulate self and others; to de-escalate customer/members’ heightened emotions; and to help mitigate aggressive/violent behaviour where possible.
- Other professional skills and capacity builders – self-awareness, personality/leadership development (knowing how to work with other personality ‘types’ in a fast-paced environment), mentoring/coaching, motivating others, strengthening self-confidence/self-esteem, and building a more positive work environment that is supportive, accountable and therefore more productive. (Note: Facilitation to include The Principles of Trauma-Informed Approach – where psychological safety, trust, collaboration and empowerment are a few key values and practices).
Recommended Program & Agenda over 3-days
Based on our recent Teams call/meeting and by taking into account the above goals, planning is at the beginning stages at this point with exact agenda, program content, activities and overall experience flow and progression TBD; for now, this is an initial SAMPLE / WORKING DRAFT for the 3-days. It includes a series of progressive workshops mixed with team building activities (and role-playing) that progressively support the learning and development outcomes. *See Proposed Agenda below as well as Recommended Program descriptions with downloadable PDF summaries.

Serious Play

Competition is optional as is degree of facilitation (activity choice customized for each group based on group dynamics and training objectives).
The Marshmallow Challenge Workshop
This challenge is a world renown, fun and instructive exercise that encourages teams to experience simple but profound lessons in collaboration, creativity & innovation. This fast-paced activity inspires a shared learning experience, opening up various possibilities to achieve success - or not!

Team Spirit Challenge
An event where the whole group is together in the same area, and teams compete in series of unique high-energy, amazing ‘Survivor-like’ group challenges that require problem-solving, trust-building and creative teamwork solutions! With a fun, strength-based approach, this is a great event for including diverse needs and abilities. Always makes for awesome photos and memories!
Orienteering Challenge
In teams, participants learn to use traditional orienteering methods along with a ‘landmark legend’ and a set of guidelines, to navigate through their environment towards a variety of creative check point stations (mystery team challenges). The initiatives and will require teams to plan, strategize, communicate effectively, and regularly re-evaluate their decisions!
Amazing Adventure Race
Be ready for a high-impact adventure-based ‘scavenger hunt-style’ experience! Teams are given a map, legend, course and clues and compete in a unique team adventure challenge, racing through the local trails and beautiful wilderness setting whilst finding and completing strategically hidden and customized checkpoint challenges and team building initiatives.
Amazing Adventure Race: Remote Radio Course
Each team will be split in two & given 2 radios along with maps and clues. The challenge will require teams to strategize carefully, make key decisions, adapt as needed, and communicate via radio in order to complete all creative challenges, checkpoints, and problem-solving tasks successfully. This is an intense experience that mirrors working as a remote team!
Adventure Play at Loon Lake, Maple Ridge
A series of various adventure-based experiences and options from which participants can choose (ie. canoeing, raft-building, archery, low ropes and high ropes, rock climbing) that will help get people out of the board room and make any meeting or conference refreshing, interactive and fun! Located at one of our partner 'Adventure-Centre': Loon Lake Lodge & Retreat Centre, Maple Ridge.
Adventure Play at Camp Pringle, Shawnigan lake
A series of various adventure-based experiences and options from which participants can choose (ie. canoeing, raft-building, archery, low ropes and high ropes, rock climbing) that will help get people out of the board room and make any meeting or conference refreshing, interactive and fun! Located at one of our partner 'Adventure-Centre': Pringle Camp & Retreat, Shawnigan Lake.
Corporate Picnic Adventure Day
Includes many activity options. Imagine a super fun, interactive, company-wide experience where everyone has the time and space to relax, connect, recharge, play together as colleagues and/or as families, and at the same time accomplish something uniquely different, where company values are promoted and celebrated, and new friendships and memories are created!
Adventure-Play-Wellness Day
The best mix of of various adventure-based and wellness experiences options from which participants can choose (ie. lantern making, candle-making, personal leadership/goal-setting, clay-work, circle drumming, canoeing, raft-building, archery, low ropes and high ropes, rock climbing & more) that will help get people out of the city and make any experience refreshing, interactive and fun! Located at one of our partner 'Adventure-Centres'.
Paddle & Play Day
Paddle & Play is a unique land & water team-building event that combines your choice of one or several of our land-based activities with either traditional Voyageur Canoes or Dragon Boating. Teams will divide and take turns being on land and on water. They will compete in a series of challenges where teamwork, strategy, problem solving, collaboration, and a sense of fun are key to team and organizational success.
Dragon Boating Adventure
Paddling either 10 or 20-person canoes, and led by a professional team of dragon boat instructors, your group will benefit from the expertise of trained facilitators to help guide them through the basics of dragon boat paddling skills and learn to work together to paddle safely, paddle fast, and have tons of fun!
Serious Play: Indoor
A series of fun indoor facilitated activity-based team initiatives, for groups that require more focus on group dynamics, social interaction, team-work and fun! Competition is optional as is degree of facilitation (activity choice customized for each group based on group dynamics and training objectives). Great for indoor conferences/events!
Virtual Team Building
During our Virtual Programs, each participant will use their skills and creativity in a way that may have taken a back seat in today’s remote work-life. In addition, we debrief each event, so that all participants can learn how to relate and apply the experience to their everyday life and business environment. The overall benefit for you? You will see how your team can continue to grow and connect, even when physically apart.
