UBC LEAP Program

Number of Participants: Approximately 30-35 people; ages 15-19
Date(s): Saturday, June 4th, 2022
Location: Discussed options were: DCLS Resource Center in Delta (Preferred), Deas Island Park, Camp Alexander, & Loon Lake.
TBD - Preferably outdoors - though it might be good to have an indoor option should there be unexpected weather. A park, lake, or beach setting where we can spend the day. * Preferred option.
Length of Time: 10:00am start - 3:00pm finish - TBD
Invitation & Context - Vision & Goals:
Community Futures and Delta Community Living Society have come together to invite Pinnacle Pursuits to propose an interactive day of "get to know you/meet & greet" with their youth (15-19) and their peer mentors on Saturday, June 4th 2022. This will be the majority of the youth's first time participating in a retreat of this nature. The ratio for youth to peer mentors will be 1:1, with the possibility of doubling up.
Community Futures & DCLS are hoping for a fun packed outdoor summer event that will help facilitate positive connections between peer mentors and youth. This is a chance for staff to see how peer mentors/youth work together in order to form beneficial pairings for the remainder of the program. They want youth to be introduced to activities that can connect to employment related skills (problem solving, assembly, communicating, creating concepts, etc) to build their confidence as well as provide peer mentors/staff with some insight into their skills, talents, and interests.
Proposed Program & Agenda Flow:
Based on our recent discussions with Hayleigh, we are proposing a full draft agenda with activities that we can refine as needed.

Investment & Budget:
From a budget standpoint, we had discussed the range of $3,500-4,250.00 (This includes full program planning/management, 3-4 staff/facilitators, all program equipment/supplies, and five million comprehensive liability), based on degree of customization, any program changes, and additional extras, like turning it into a Survivor theme / awards / Pro-D handouts for staff/facilitators about ‘why we do what we do’ as discussed.
Note: Our pricing for you has included a factored-in discount of about 30% for NFP and Community Organizations.

A fully-inclusive customized program for the UBC: LEAP Program Youth ages 15-19. This will include a series of fun indoor/outdoor facilitated activity-based team initiatives, for youth that will focus on group dynamics, social interaction, problem-solving, trust-building, creative teamwork solutions, and FUN!

In-Person Team Building Programs Include...
Serious Play
A series of fun indoor/outdoor facilitated activity-based team initiatives, for groups that require more focus on group dynamics, social interaction, team-work and fun! Competition is optional as is degree of facilitation (activity choice customized for each group based on group dynamics and training objectives).
Amazing Adventure Race
Be ready for a high-impact adventure-based ‘scavenger hunt-style’ experience! Teams are given a map, legend, course and clues and compete in a unique team adventure challenge, racing through the local trails and beautiful wilderness setting whilst finding and completing strategically hidden and customized checkpoint challenges and team building initiatives.
Orienteering Challenge
In teams of 4-5, participants learn to use traditional orienteering methods (map and compass) along with a ‘landmark legend’ and a set of guidelines, to navigate through their environment towards a variety of creative check point stations (mystery team challenges). The combination of initiatives and will require teams to plan, strategize, communicate effectively, and regularly re-evaluate their decisions!
Paddle & Play Day
Paddle & Play is a unique land & water team-building event that combines your choice of one or several of our land-based activities with either traditional Voyageur Canoes or Dragon Boating. Teams will divide and take turns being on land and on water. They will compete in a series of challenges where teamwork, strategy, problem solving, collaboration, and a sense of fun are key to team and organizational success.
Adventure Play at Loon Lake,
Maple Ridge
A series of various adventure-based experiences and options from which participants can choose (ie. canoeing, raft-building, archery, low ropes and high ropes, rock climbing). Located at one of our partner 'Adventure-Centre': Loon Lake Lodge & Retreat Centre, Maple Ridge.
